CEIP Vicente Blasco Ibáñez
Alginet is a welcoming and dynamic municipality located in the Ribera Alta region of Valencia, Spain. Situated just about 25 kilometers south of Valencia city, it perfectly bridges the gap between rural tradition and suburban growth. Historically deeply rooted in agriculture—particularly famous for its orange and Kaki Persimoncrops—Alginet has evolved over the decades into a well-connected town that attracts families looking for a
community-oriented lifestyle. It is a place where Valencian culture, language, and closeknit neighborhood traditions are proudly preserved.
At the heart of this community lies CEIP Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, a public early childhood and primary education school (Colegio de Educación Infantil y Primaria). Named after the iconic Valencian writer and politician, the school has traditionally operated as a vibrant, two-line learning center catering to local children from ages 3 to 12. Before the events of late 2024, the school was known for its dedicated teaching staff, active parent-teacher association (AMPA), and cozy, functional infrastructure that included distinct spaces for younger and older students, an open playground, and unique features like a „sensory garden“ (jardín de los sentidos). It has long been valued by local families not just for its academic curriculum, but for its inclusive environment and focus on community values.
The school’s reality changed dramatically on October 29, 2024, when the catastrophic DANA (the severe flash flooding event) struck the Valencia region. Alginet and its educational infrastructure suffered significant consequences. The original school facilities sustained severe damage, rendering the buildings unsafe and completely inoperable. During this year we were fostered by the other schools in town among whom was IES Hort
de Feliu. Proving the immense resilience of its staff, families, and local authorities, CEIP Vicente Blasco Ibáñez refused to let the disaster stop the children’s education. The school.underwent a major temporary relocation to several town buildings and modular prefabricated classrooms
